About Us

Amira Ahmed, Founder

Originally from Somali Mai in Southern Somalia, Ms. Ahmed has been an active resident in the Twin Cities since 2000. She has three children — two girls and one boy. Over the years, she has held many different positions: Family advocate, advocate for women how have suffered domestic abuse, childcare worker, consultant, Somali language interpreter for clinics, hospitals, school districts and the court, as well as a translator of books and other documents.

Before founding MCDI, her previous position was as a Somali Outreach Coordinator, doing home visits, training, and helping the organization Family Friend Neighborhood (FFN) to become a licensed provider. She is also a board member with the Somali Youth Organization, Somali Mai Community.

Ms. Ahmed received a BA degree in Business Administration/Accounting from Lafoole University of Somalia and Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. She has also received instruction in management casework at the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She holds certificates in Advanced Leadership Training (Nairobi, Kenya), Train the Trainer, First Aid/CPR training (Red Cross), and is also a certified trainer for SEED, Building Cultural Connections (BCC), and Core Competencies.
